about
Many months ago, P. Murray became acquainted with a young, talented singer/writer/producer from Philadelphia named Malik. The two were so much alike in their intellectual approach to the creative process that a collaboration seemed almost inevitable. Here is the result of that work, with music & lyrics contributed by Malik and P. Murray on the track. The song speaks of a journey to the West Coast, with a more general underlying theme of maturity & change.
lyrics
VERSE
Donʼt have much in my wallet,
and Iʼm so very far away from home.
Too late to turn back now,
that big airplane has already come and gone.
Walking through this nowhere,
searching for the place that I belong...
Lost in all this nowhere,
but itʼs okay cuzʼ I will get me home...
CHORUS
And here I am, in this place that they call California,
And here I am, time to find the way on my own.
And here I am,
Here I Stand,
Hereʼs the man that Iʼve become.
VERSE
Staring out the window,
as the train slides through the rain & snow;
One crusade behind me,
another just outside the cabin doors...
Who'd have thought Iʼd find the peace that Iʼd been looking for
In a small and simple town,
and two eyes my heart adores?
CHORUS
And here I am, in this place that they call California,
And here I am, time to find the way on my own.
And here I am,
Here I Stand,
Hereʼs the man that Iʼve become.
VERSE
Nice to meet you California,
Iʼm off with my friends on the road,
Off to new discoveries,
giant leaps into the great unknown...
You see sometimes, we all find
That life wants to help set us free,
So itʼs no crime to seek a guide
In a friend when youʼre in need...
CHORUS
And here I am, God bless the place that they call California
And here I am, on my own but I am not alone
And here I am,
Here I Stand,
Hereʼs the man Iʼm proud to be
